Passengers Stranded on Albany Airport Tarmac for Hours Due to Staffing Issues
Albany, NY – Two passengers are speaking out after being stuck on a Delta Airlines plane for nearly two hours on the tarmac at Albany International Airport. The unexpected delay, which left passengers frustrated and confused, was reportedly due to a lack of Delta staff at the airport to assist with deplaning.
A Delayed Arrival with No Explanation
The flight in question landed at Albany International Airport on time, but instead of promptly deplaning, passengers remained trapped on board for nearly two hours. A passenger-recorded cellphone video captured the scene inside the cabin, where travelers grew increasingly impatient while waiting for an update.
Among those on board was David Anderson, a soldier returning home after years away from his family. He described the situation as “extremely disappointing,” particularly for those with loved ones eagerly waiting at the terminal.
“There were families waiting, and you could tell it was nerve-wracking. We didn’t know if something was wrong with the plane or if it was just a staffing issue,” Anderson explained.
Delta Passengers Left in the Dark
Passengers reported receiving little to no explanation from Delta during the ordeal. Ultimately, airport safety officers—not Delta employees—assisted in guiding passengers off the aircraft.
One traveler, identified as Ms. Robinson, expressed further frustration when she attempted to retrieve her luggage the next morning.
“Delta didn’t notify me about anything. I checked my app, and it told me my luggage was available at a terminal, so I had to pick it up myself at 7 a.m.,” she said.
Robinson also pointed out the airline’s “20-minute baggage guarantee,” questioning its reliability given the significant delay in retrieving her belongings.
Airport & Delta’s Response
David Hamilton, the city’s transportation director, confirmed that Albany International Airport would not be altering its protocols in response to the incident. However, he stated that Delta had committed to changing its staffing procedures to ensure employees are always present when flights arrive and depart.
Despite the airline’s reassurances, passengers are left wondering how such an oversight could have occurred and what steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
For now, travelers are advised to stay informed about their flights and be prepared for potential delays—especially when arriving late at night.
