LSU baseball adds power hitting first basemen from the transfer portal
LSU baseball picked up a power hitter out of the transfer portal. Zach Yorke made a post on social media on Tuesday and announced his intention to play for the Tigers.
Yorke played three seasons at Grand Canyon, hitting .328 with 199 hits and 32 home runs across his career. The six-foot-two, 295-pounder built more power year after year as he slugged .632 in 2025.
The first baseman finished with a .995 fielding percentage in 2025 on 357 attempts. Yorke is .993 in the field for his career, showcasing his reliability to make every grab from his infielders. With Jared Jones off to the MLB, the Tigers need a reliable first baseman with power, and Yorke certainly fills both needs.
Yorke was the second addition of the day for LSU on Tuesday. He follows Trent Caraway, a third baseman from Oregon State who will be entering his junior year. LSU lost three starting fielders from its national championship team and head coach Jay Johnson is wasting no time building depth.
